Sparks and Smoke?

Hey guys,
In my movie I need some sparks and smoke from gunshots. I usually do this on my computer but if the camera moves I can't move the sparks so it stays in the same place. So I'm asking how to do on the set sparks and smoke. Thanks.

This either works or doesn't.

If you shot indoors, make a few frames (where the gun is discharging) extremely bright.

See if it is convincing.

Then save, or press CTRL-Z

I assume you are using plastic weapons, or there are noise-restrictions issues. If you are using plastic/soft-air: spray them with metalic gun paint (blue looks particularly kool); encourages more use of close-up.

Also prep gun like you would real fire-arm: eg, chroming parts of it, etc.

Extra work if you feel like it, a load of unnecessary stupid stuff if you're tight on time, or have got a life.

It depends how you're doing your editing, I assume that you're using Premier or similar.

If this is the case, you CAN move your gun flash, but it's fiddly.

If you can position the flash for a single frame, you can do a different flash for each frame.

NOTE this will not work for John Woo films, as it would take longer than Chicken Run to make

Check out http://www.lemaitre.co.uk/ they are manufacturers of pyrotechnic equipment. I know they used to produce an item called a Micro-det, they were very useful for reproducing realistic looking bullet wounds.
